The basic arithmetic operations follow specific calculation rules. Chain problems offer children an excellent introduction to these principles. The rule of "multiplication and division before addition and subtraction" (order of operations) must be applied. These laws form an important foundation in your child’s mathematical education.

Important Calculation Rule:

Always solve the multiplication first, then proceed to addition or subtraction:

• 1 × 2 + 10 = 2 + 10 = 12
• 5 × 5 + 27 = 25 + 27 = 32

In 3^rd grade, the order of operations is further practiced and reinforced.
