Number pyramids are visual chain tasks where each step builds on the results of the blocks below. The basic rule is simple: the sum of two adjacent blocks in the lower row equals the number in the block directly above them.
If the bottom row is already filled, students only need to add the numbers to complete the pyramid. However, if blocks in different rows are pre-filled, they must use both addition and subtraction to find the missing values. For example, if the top block is given and one of the supporting blocks is missing, students apply reverse calculations by subtracting to fill in the correct number.
This visual structure helps children practice addition in a logical and engaging way. While number pyramids can also be used for multiplication, the numbers grow very quickly, which is why EduKing focuses on addition in this grade level. By working with number pyramids, students strengthen their number sense, practice flexible thinking, and develop confidence in problem-solving.
